About
Arriba las Manos is a registered nonprofit organization working at the grassroots in Cartagena, Colombia.
We’re a small but passionate group of people bound together by the common goal of strengthening education, literacy and character formation in communities near Cartagena that sport some the most alarming poverty indicators in the country.
We focus our efforts on children, because we believe that when given the right opportunities, children ultimately become the most powerful agents of change and development in their communities.
Ararca
We arrived in 2010 in Ararca, a small village on Baru Island, where according to a study from the previous year, 40% of the population could not read and write. Due to its remote location, children and young people there have very few options. Appalled by the situation, we got involved with the community and have since implemented a variety of educational programs, supporting the local school academically and logistically.
2012 programs
The experience of throwing ourselves into this intervention has been one of successes and failures, both of which we’re thankful for. We’re taking what we’ve learned and are developing some exciting programs for the coming year.
