What is Crecer con Valores?

Crecer con Valores is a character development program designed for disadvantaged children. Crecer con Valores equips children with life skills that will enable them to overcome the challenges they face and effect change in their environments.

The program is structured around dynamic weekly workshops that integrate games, stories, drama, music, and art activities that help the children grasp fundamental concepts. Through the workshops and the designated homework activities, children learn essential values that will help them make wise choices. The foundation is laid for the children to become successful, contributive, and happy individuals.

In partnership with Ararca’s school, Crecer con Valores was launched in July 2010 for 125 children ages 8-12. Local youth are being trained to participate in the program as facilitators, and young people from 5 continents have already volunteered their services as workshop assistants.

Crecer con Valores (Growing up with values) teaches skills and concepts that go beyond formal education and that are fundamental for well-being and effectiveness. By promoting a strong sense of worth in the children, the program curbs negative behavior and prepares them for meaningful lives.

That’s the motto for Crecer con Valores. The program was assembled around three key principles to insure quality.

We believe that in order for children to develop the respect for self and others that is vital for an effective life, it’s imperative that they receive personalized care and attention. In our Crecer con Valores program, we prioritize this one-on-one approach. The workshops are built around small groups of 10 to 15 children. This means that each child receives tailored attention from their instructors and program facilitators, who work to create an environment where children can explore themes that are important to them.

In each workshop, children enjoy a variety of activities such as games, theater, and crafts–all designed to help them achieve a deep understanding of the principles presented. Children are engaged through their five senses and participate throughout the class. It’s all about putting the FUN! in ethics.

Crecer con Valores takes learning outside the classroom via homework assignments that reinforce the subject matter throughout the week and help the children apply to their lives the skills and concepts learnt in the workshops. By enlisting local allies as program facilitators, Crecer con Valores maximizes the value each child receives from the program and its impact on the community.
